Region & Growing Info

Japan

Japan is famous for its high-quality green teas like Sencha, Gyokuro, and Matcha. Grown primarily in Shizuoka, Kagoshima, and Uji, these teas are known for their fresh, vegetal, and umami-rich flavours. Gyokuro is shade grown, offering a deep, sweet profile, while Sencha’s tend to have a bright, grassy taste. Matcha, a powdered green tea, is used in traditional ceremonies and has an intense, creamy flavour.

Japan's unique steaming process preserves the verdant, green colour of its teas. In addition to traditional green teas, Japan also produces Genmaicha (green tea with roasted rice). Genmaicha has a nutty, toasty flavour and is often consumed daily.
