This green tea is largely composed of leaf stalks, Kuki, from organic cultivation which are obtained during the production of Sencha or Bancha.

It is nearly free of caffeine, but rich in trace elements.

Toasted Kukicha is a particular green tea speciality with a strong, sweetish taste and the mild coffee note has hints of dark chocolate.

Despite its appearance, its taste is discreet making it an enjoyable green tea, suitable both during the day and in the evening.

Region & Growing Info

Japan

Japan is famous for its high-quality green teas like Sencha, Gyokuro, and Matcha. Grown primarily in Shizuoka, Kagoshima, and Uji, these teas are known for their fresh, vegetal, and umami-rich flavours. Gyokuro is shade grown, offering a deep, sweet profile, while Sencha’s tend to have a bright, grassy taste. Matcha, a powdered green tea, is used in traditional ceremonies and has an intense, creamy flavour.

Japan's unique steaming process preserves the verdant, green colour of its teas. In addition to traditional green teas, Japan also produces Genmaicha (green tea with roasted rice). Genmaicha has a nutty, toasty flavour and is often consumed daily.
